She is the daughter of the actress June Lockhart and granddaughter of actor Gene Lockhart. Lockhart's professional career started very early. Her first role was aged four, when she appeared in T is for Tumbleweed. The short film about a subject was considered for nomination to an Oscar award. The actress accompanied her mother on the location where she was taught about the workings of the company. Lockhart also appeared in a few scenes of Lassie. Dora in Jory, 1972 was her first film. She was 18 years old when she played Joan Crawford's daughter Joan Crawford on The Sixth Sense. Joan made her last appearance on the show. Anne did not want the part of Laurie Strode that she was offered in John Carpenter's Halloween, 1978. Jaime Lee Curtis later took on the role. Carpenter tells us that the actress was on his list for the role, but that she rejected the offer. Anne isn't aware of having been invited by John Carpenter or being offered the role. It could be that her agent rejected the role down without informing Anne. The initial decision was to play the role by Glen Larson who sent her an initial script for the role on the 1978 television series Battlestar Galactica. In the beginning, she didn't like the character because it seemed too fragile. Glen invented a new role for her, with Sheba being a more formidable persona. The Living Legend's first 25-page script was read to her, and she immediately endorsed it. The show ran for one season. She co-starred in Joyride alongside Desi Arnaz Jr., Melanie Griffith (the daughter of Desi Arnaz Jr. and Lucille Bell), Robert Carradine and Melanie Griffith in 1977 and in The Dark Tower with Michael Moriarty (1987).
