Portia Lee James DeGeneres, well-known professionally as the pseudonym Portia de Rossi, is a well-known model from the United States acting, actress and philanthropist. The name she changed was legally registered when she was 15and adopted her name from the Shakespearean performance 'The Merchant from Venice' and adopting the Italian name 'de Rossi' that she believed to be glamorous. Portia feels that it was her most adventurous act she's ever done. She stated that the urgency for her to change her name was driven by her personal struggle with her sexual identity. Portia made her debut in the film industry with a romantic comedy drama called 'Sirens', where she co-starred with Hugh Grant.
